Why the region matters

Shark lists the US HD731 at 120 V. Do not assume a US unit works on a 230 V supply or the reverse; check that your listing is for your country.

Features that matter

  • Automatic temperature control. Shark says IQ Styling sets temperature and airflow per attachment. That means fewer manual choices; Shark does not list discrete heat or speed steps on the page we read. (Author’s analysis.)
  • Scalp Shield. A lower-temperature mode that Shark describes as scalp-protecting. We did not test it.
  • Heat and hair health. The American Academy of Dermatology advises limiting heat styling and using lower heat. (Author’s analysis; AAD wording to be re-checked on publish day.)

Pros and cons (from sources)

Pros

  • Shark publishes model, wattage, voltage and weight, and they are consistent with the Amazon listing’s model and weight.
  • Temperature regulation and a lower-temperature mode, per Shark.
  • Several accessories are sold separately, so you can add only what you need.

Cons and limits

  • No discrete heat or speed settings are listed by Shark, which some buyers prefer to have.
  • Some accessories, such as the diffuser and wide-tooth comb, are sold separately.
  • The listing is for straight and wavy hair; check Shark’s other variants for other hair types.
  • We have not tested noise, drying time or results.

Who it may suit (Author’s opinion/analysis)

  • Someone who wants an automatic-control dryer system and a 120 V US unit.
  • Possibly less suited to anyone who wants manual heat and speed steps.
  • For fine hair, see our fine hair dryer guide.
